Date of Death: February 8, 2015
Elizabeth Bakuska (nee Berkes)
March 6, 1932 – February 8, 2015Almost 83 years old, Mom passed away at the Walden Heights Seniors Home in Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, February 8. After a lengthy hospital stay, we are thankful for the move into Walden where she enjoyed friendships, activities, comfort and happy moments with family and friends for a few weeks. Born to John & Elizabeth Berkes near Stockholm, SK, she also lived in Whitewood, SK, before moving to Portage La Prairie, MB, where she worked as a secretary at Portage Lumber. She met Charles Bakuska and they were married in 1958 by Reverend Henderson. While raising their children she helped run the family business, Midland Refrigeration, and also worked as an MTS telephone operator for 20 years. Her greatest love was her family. Predeceased by Charlie in 1994 and her daughter, Angela, in 1969, she was “Mom” to Bradley (Hilda Stillinger), Leonard (Ottilie Murray), Candace (Brad Charlton), and youngest son, Sheldon. She delighted in being “Granny” to Derrick, Devon, Amanda, Kristen, Jeffrey, Erin, and Tyler (& wife Kayleigh Cline). She was utterly overjoyed to become “Great-Granny” to Alexander Charlton on March 3, 2014. Predeceased by her parents and 7 siblings, she also leaves her loving sister, Melina Benna, of Whitewood, and many extended family members and friends. Lastly, Mom had a great love of all animals especially horses, cats, and dogs and leaves behind her own sweet feline, Min-Min, who will be lovingly cared for by her son, Sheldon. A memorial gathering was held at the Charlton home on February 11. In honour of our mother, please consider memorial donations to the Bear Valley (Horse) Rescue in Sundre, AB (403-637-2708) or to any animal rescue agency or shelter of choice.
“In the hearts of those who loved you, you will always be there”.
Örökre béke, Anya. (Eternal peace, Mom).
