Date of Birth: January 8, 1943

Date of Death: January 30, 2024

Evelyn Anita Szakacs peacefully left to join Jesus in Heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 after losing her battle with cancer, just 22 days after her 81st birthday.
Evelyn Anita Szakacs was the devoted mother of Tyler Szakacs, Brian (Wanda) Szakacs, Curtis (Bonnie) Szakacs and Natasha (Tyler) Waynert. She was the beloved grandmother of Caleb (Alex) Szakacs, Brayden (Summer) Szakacs, Jessica (Levi) Froese, Heidi, Meka, Alonzo (Janessa), Peter, Sunny, Amy, Davidson and Isaac Szakacs, William, Lillie, Jasmin and Charlie Waynert. She was the proud great-grandmother of Harrison Szakacs, Everleigh and Emma Szakacs, Eloise and Malachi Froese, and one on the way!
Evelyn was born to proud parents, Bert Sr. and Margaret Daku. She grew up on a farm southwest of Kipling with siblings, Bert Jr., Peter, Edward, Lillian, Henry, Leona and Carolyn. She enjoyed singing with her sister Carolyn, and taking long walks. She married Alonzo Szakacs, and they farmed on the farm southeast of Kipling and raised their four children. Mom had huge gardens and believed in eating homegrown and homemade. She was famous for her stew and homemade bread, which she made from flour she ground herself.
A few years after losing her husband to Alzheimer’s, she met and married Steve Turuk, and was blessed to have a companion and helper for nearly two decades. They loved church and the church family. Her favourite part of the church was the worship, the more upbeat and contemporary, the better. It was her desire that her kids, grandkids, and everyone she met would have an opportunity to know the Lord personally. We will miss her dearly, and cannot wait to see her again one day.
An interment for Evelyn will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 in Bekevar Calvary Baptist Cemetery, Saskatchewan. The funeral procession to the cemetery will start at The People’s Church, 701 3rd St. South, Kipling, Sask. at 11 a.m. The interment will take place at 11:30 a.m.
Following the interment will be a celebration of life in The People’s Church, Kipling, SK. at 3 p.m. with officiants Kevin and Merodee Hassler.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the The Peoples Church, P.O. Box 338, Kipling, SK S0G 2S0 or the Calvary Baptist Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 959, Kipling, SK S0G 2S0.
