Date of Birth: April 27, 1950
Date of Death: December 14, 2023
Dale Piller passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023.
Dale was born to George and Helen Piller of Grenfell, SK, on April 27, 1950. He and his twin brother, Dallas, were the youngest of five
siblings following three sisters, Dorothy, Donna and Dianne. The family grew up on the Piller homestead north of Grenfell. George pursued farming, and Helen was a school teacher.
In his younger years, Dale spent his days on the rodeo circuit. While he tried his hand at many events, he preferred saddle bronc and steer wrestling above the others. He talked fondly of his famed horse, Porky, his many friends and memories from those days, and it was always with a spark in his eye and a grin on his face.
Later on, Dale settled down north of Grenfell in the Qu’Appelle Valley just below his original homestead. He built his own home from two old granaries and later married and raised his family here. During these years, a purebred Red Angus herd and Riverdale Stockfarm were established. This herd is carried on through his daughter and son-in-law today.
Most recently, Dale resided in Melville but spent many of his days with his kids and grandkids on their farms. He still enjoyed seeing new calves born each year and spending his days alongside Jarret in the baler and Reid in the combine. Dad always enjoyed the farm and helping out everywhere he could right up to the last day he left. We will forever be thankful to have those times.
Dale’s love for his grandkids was deep, and he could always be found along the sidelines. He was there for every single cattle show, football game and fishing adventure he could be cheering them on. He was always quick with a joke or story to make them laugh and taught them plenty of Papa Dale words over the years, as well as how to play a well-fought game of crib.
Dale will be remembered fondly for his quick wit, his never-ending advice and his to-the-point personality. He was always quick with a hand up to any friends or family who needed it and truly had the biggest heart you could find.
Dale was predeceased by his mother, Helen; his father, George; as well as his sisters, Donna (Richard) Erickson, Dorothy (Roger) Derby and Dianne (Fred) Wendel. He is survived by his brother, Dallas (Carol) Piller; son Reid Piller; daughter Jenna, son-in-law Jarret Loveridge and his grandkids, Ava and Cade Loveridge; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date. Details to follow.
