Helen Reiner of Regina, formerly of Melville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023.
She was dearly loved and remembered by her sons, Louis (Ruth) and David (Sharon); her grandchildren, Kim (Troy), Adam (Kelsey), and Morgan (Jesse); her great-grandchildren Naomi, Jake and Theodore; and nine nieces and nephews, to whom she was very devoted.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bert Reiner; parents, Louis and Gertrude Sier; brothers, Harold and Norman; sisters, Molly and Betteanne; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Helen was born in Ogema, Sask. and moved to Melville with her parents and family in 1937. She was educated in Ogema, Melville and at the University of British Columbia. In 1952 she married Bert, her best friend. They returned to Melville and joined her brother Harold at Sier’s Department Store, a business started by her father in 1937. The business continued for 35 more years until she and Bert retired in 1987 and moved to Regina.
Helen was a friendly, happy person. She loved crafts, cooking, baking, entertaining and sports in her youth. She spent many happy years at the cottage at Melville Beach and at Clear Lake with her family. She enjoyed interesting trips to Israel, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Disneyland, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. She belonged to CGIT and Eastern Star in her early years, and was a member of Regina’s Beth Jacob Synagogue, Hadassah, and the synagogue’s seniors club, helping out with many projects.
Following a private funeral, Helen was laid to rest beside her beloved Bert at the Regina Jewish Cemetery. Her family appreciates the incredible care while Helen was in hospice care.
