Date of Birth: June 8, 1934

Date of Death: November 9, 2022

Sylvia Ena Lumb of Melville, SK, passed away peacefully at St. Paul Lutheran Home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the age of 88 years.
Sylvia was born to Emil and Dorthea (nee Frick) Hohm on June 8, 1934, in Colmer, SK. She was the third of four children. Sylvia was raised on a farm near Duff, where she attended Colmer School; she completed her high school education in Abernethy while living with her Aunt Ida Hohm. After completing school, Sylvia was united in marriage to Walter Lumb on February 7, 1953, and together they built their home and raised their three children, Diane, Ken and Kathy, on the family farm. Once the children were older, Sylvia started working St. Paul Lutheran Home, and after 10 years, she retired in 1990. In 1997, they moved off the farm to retire in Melville.
Sylvia and Walter enjoyed travelling the world together. They explored across Canada and Australia and parts of Europe and United States. They travelled on many bus tours to watch the Blue Jays play ball and travelled across Canada by Via Rail.
Sylvia loved to play the organ and spent a lifetime playing in our church, for choirs, and at home for her family. Over the years, she was very involved in our church. She sat on the church Vestry, was a member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) and even selected the hymns for the weekly Sunday service.
Sylvia was a gardener through and through. There was always a large garden planted at the farm to provide homegrown fruits and vegetables for the whole family. Then there was her flower garden; she always had the most beautiful flower gardens. If you would drive down Main Street, you couldn’t help but notice the colourful, abundant flowers in their front yard.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Walter; her parents, Emil and Dorthea Hohm; brother Adam Ulmer; sisters Gertrude and Shirley; and brothers-in-law James and Turner. She is survived by her three loving children and their families: daughter Diane (Jerry) Stulberg and their child, Michelle (Shaun) Krupski and their daughter Kelsey; son Ken (Kim) Lumb and their children, Abby and Matthew; daughter Kathy (Grant) Mann and their children, Jeniffer (Jason) Stein and their children, Garrett, Katelyn, Jonathan and Nicholas, and Clayton (Darci Kirkwood) and their daughter, Addisyn; sisters-in-law Muriel Burnett, Helen Polos and Shirley Ulmer; and many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia’s funeral service was held Monday, November 14, 2022, at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Melville, with the Rev. Kim Sherwin officiating. The organist, Gaylene Matthews, led in the hymns, “Just As I Am”, “In the Garden” and “Precious Lord”. The eulogists were Clayton Mann, Jeniffer Stein and Kelsey Krupski, and the reader was Abby Lumb. Honorary pallbearers were Kelsey Krupski, Jonathan Stein, Katelyn Stein, Nicholas Stein, Garrett Stein and Addisyn Mann. Interment took place in the Melville City Cemetery with Michelle Krupski, Jeniffer Stein, Clayton Mann, Abby Lumb, Matthew Lumb, Rick Cowan, Shaun Krupski and Jason Stein acting as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
