Indian Head town council held a short, regular meeting on July 11 at 7 p.m.
Earlier this year, the town applied for an Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) Recreation Grant for a proposed expansion of the AJM Davies Arena that would renovate bathrooms, create larger change rooms and incorporate a designated female change area. Council received a notice that the project was not selected to advance in the grant intake process. The town will retain the draft plans in case it wants to pursue the project in the future.
The town acquired the property at 919 Water Street through tax enforcement proceedings. Overdue school and municipal taxes are still owed for the property, and the town incurred costs to clear the lot. Multiple vehicles and other scrap metal were removed and buildings demolished at the property. A call for tenders was issued for the lot but no bids were received. The town is now permitted to list the lot for sale with other properties in its inventory. Administration asked for direction regarding pricing and, because the lot is narrow but very deep, council agreed to calculate the price based on total square footage rather than the usual frontage.
After accepting reports from the Indian Head RCMP Detachment and minutes from Community Development Committee meetings, council went in camera to discuss a bylaw enforcement issue and then adjourned.
