Date of Birth: June 11, 1923
Date of Death: February 12, 2022
Kenneth Thompson pass-ed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at the age of 98 years.
Ken was born in England and came to Canada in 1927. He settled with his parents, brothers and sisters on a farm northwest of Wapella. He stayed on the farm until retiring to Whitewood in 1983. After retiring, Ken started working for other farmers and enjoyed himself greatly. He said he always wanted to farm, just didn’t want the stress that goes along with having your own farm.
Family was very important to Ken, whether it was teasing all his nieces and nephews, and later his granddaughters, or helping family out with any issues they may bring to him. He enjoyed watching many sports, especially golf in the winter just to see the green grass. Playing some form of cards or dice gave him great pleasure, and he was known to make up colours in Uno if it suited him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lydia; brothers Jim (Joyce) Thompson, Les Thompson and Phil (Kaye) Thompson; sisters Ida (Wilf) Saunders and Peggy (George) Hay; and brother-in-law Ross Reid.
He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Reid; son David (Melanie) Thompson; granddaughters Erica and Kara Thompson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wapella, SK, with the Rev. Vivian
Roberts officiating. Eulogies were presented by Diane Nelles and David Thompson, the readings were done by Bruce Restau and Kara Thompson, and the congregation listened to the hymns, “Amazing Grace”, “Abide with Me” and “Now Thank We All Our God”. Interment took place in Wapella Cemetery with Diane Nelles, Dwayne Nelles, Brian Buckland, Lynn Restau, Adam Restau and Brayden Restau as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Whitewood and Melville.
