Geraldine Rathgeber was born on July 5, 1933 in the Homefield district, a daughter to Nick and Anne (nee Maystrowich) Smuk.
Geraldine received her education at Beaver Hill School. After completing her schooling she worked at Homefield Store. She met Gilbert Rathgeber at her sister’s place south of Goodeve and were united in marriage on July 15, 1954 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodeve. The couple began their life on Gilbert’s parent’s homestead south of Goodeve, where they raised their three children, Bev, Blair and Brian.
They retired to Melville in 1998 where Geraldine enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards, baking and spending time with her grandchildren.
This past April Geraldine moved into St. Paul Lutheran Home where she resided until entering her eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019 at the age of 86 and now joins her late husband Gilbert.
Geraldine enjoyed visits with family and friends and loved keeping the nurses and staff on their toes. She was always teasing and giving them a hard time. Her mischievous ways and loving personality will be missed by her family.
Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Bev and her children, Josh and Janice (Rick) and their children, Jacob and Emma; son, Blair (Kim) and his son Travis (Larissa); son, Brian and his children, Danielle, Jade and Jenna; as well as relatives, nieces and nephews.
Geraldine’s family and friends will always cherish the stories she shared with them, and memories made.
Funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home in Melville with Pastor Kim Sherwin officiating.
Arrangements were by Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Melville.
