Theresa Mary Broda of Melville, Sask., wife of the late Joe Broda. It is with great sadness that we share the news of Theresa’s passing peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital at the age of 86, following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1930, and raised in the Grayson area, Theresa attended Flegel School. On Nov. 9, 1948, Theresa married the love of her life, Joe, and they started farming in the Killaly area. In 1955 they moved to Melville where Theresa continued to raise her six children and began working at the Melville Hospital.
In the early 1960s Theresa and the family worked at clearing a lot and building a cottage at Crooked Lake, which became the hub of activity for the family. An avid golfer, Joe and Theresa were long-time members of the Last Oak Golf Course. She took a great deal of pride in her family and enjoyed many celebrations and family gatherings at their cottage over the years. Theresa was very active in her grandchildren’s lives, whether it was a dance recital, figure skating, a hockey game or a baseball game, Theresa loved to be there.
Over her lifetime, “Mother Theresa” was our caretaker. Whether it was the annual event of canning, perogies and cabbage rolls, or her famous butter rolls, everything she did was full of love for her family. She enjoyed watching her favourite sports teams, whether it was the Blue Jays or the most recent curling competition.
Theresa will be dearly missed by her loved ones and friends who celebrate the fact she is at peace with her creator.
Theresa leaves to cherish her memory, their six children: Andy (Geri) of Radium, B.C. and daughters, Tara Shaw (Darren) and their children, Crandal and Adriana; Carissa Borthwick (Corey) and their children, Declan and Criseyde; George (Linda) of Crooked Lake and daughter, Carrie and son, Jackson; Karen Schick (Garth) of Rosetown and sons, Jeremy, Derek and daughter, Kayla Edgerton (Jordan) and their children, Braxton and Connor; Stephen of Melville; Frank (Tammy) of Melville and their children, Lindsay Schweitzer (Craig) and daughter, Kinsley and son, Kyle (Amber); Joey (Maureen) of Melville, daughter, Katelyn and son, Zach; sister, Anne Haas; brother, Mike (Marlene) Ludwar; and sister-in-law, Marie Ludwar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Theresa is predeceased by her husband, Joe, in October 2015; and parents, Jacob and Rose Ludwar; brothers, Tony (Alvena) and Frank Ludwar; sister, Mary Stradeski (Roman) and Betty Cyca; brother-in-law, John Haas.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 from St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church in Melville with Rev. Fr. Mieczyslaw Burdzy, OMI as the celebrant.
