George Boghean passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at the age of 96 years old. He was born on May 7, 1930 on the family farm near Spring Valley, SK. He attended school in the Kempville School district which was northeast of the family farm. George was the fourth of six children and took over the family farm after marrying our mother, Lillian Thomas, on April 30, 1955.
Our mother was Dad’s loving wife who supported and worked tirelessly with him on the farm plus giving him five beautiful children. They were married 36 wonderful years until her passing in 1991. George remarried on May 7, 2005, to our step-mother, Beverly Beck. Beverly was a devoted and loving wife who cared for Dad with remarkable grace and unwavering dedication throughout his declining health and until his passing. We are deeply grateful and we cannot thank her enough.
George wore many hats throughout his life. He was a grain farmer, raised specialty cattle, sold accident insurance, owned a bolt and farm supply business, and operated a service station in Churchbridge, SK. There was very little George couldn’t do. He could weld, repair farm equipment, artificially inseminate cattle, and build everything from cabinets and furniture to decks. He even put those carpentry skills to work on an ostrich farm in Arkansas.
Dad was always there when you needed him, and nothing meant more to him than his family. He loved his children and treasured moments spent with them. He never hesitated to strike up a conversation with a stranger, and many of those strangers became lifelong friends. He
enjoyed cooking, playing cards, dancing, and any opportunity to gather with family and friends. Although he was a big, tough, stubborn Romanian, he wore his heart on his sleeve. He was never afraid to show his emotions or shed tears when expressing his love for his family.
Dad was predeceased by our mother, Lillian Boghean; son, Walter (Wally); parents, Mary (Banilevic) and Dan (Dumitru) Boghean; brother Dan Boghean; and sisters Lena Jonescu, Kae Banda, Loretta Hnidy and Nettie Kessler.
George is survived by his wife, Beverly; son, Lane (Wanda), and grandchildren, Ryan and Whitney (JJ); son, Darrell (Sherry); daughter, Candace, and grandchildren, Devin, Kristina (Josh) and Landon; son, Russell (Brenda), and grandchildren, Jayke and Bryce. He also leaves
behind grandchildren, Brent (Jen) and Scott (Laura); and six great-grandchildren, along with Beverly’s children: son, Rick (Sue) and grandchildren, Brennan (Marlayna) and LaTeesha (Michael); daughter, Shelly (Grant) and grandchildren, Ashley (Derrick) and Kayla (Dustin); and eight great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
To say Dad will be missed is an understatement. He was our rock and the heart of our family. We all loved him unconditionally, as he loved each of us. Heaven has welcomed him home. Rest in peace, Dad, until we meet again. Give Mom and Wally a hug from all of us.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Archpriest Very Rev. Fr. Rodion Luciuk officiating. Interment followed in St. Peter & Paul Romanian Orthodox Church Cemetery, Canora, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the St. Peter & Paul Romanian Orthodox Church
