It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Archie Everest Esplin, who left us on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025 at the age of 90 years.
Archie was born in Cardale, MB on April 20, 1935. Archie joined the Navy in 1952 and served five years in the Royal Canadian Navy with a portion during the Korean War, also serving as an honor guard at Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. He then moved back to Manitoba where he worked on the TransCanada Pipeline and at Manitoba Hydro before beginning his 38 year grain buying career in Rivers, 36 years at National Grain/Cargill and two years at Terminal 22 in Balcarres. He also spent 10 years as a Sask. Housing Manager with Balcarres Housing Authority.
Archie married Beverly Blake on Sept. 25, 1965 in Rapid City, MB. Over the years, Arch and Bev hosted over 40 bus, river and ocean cruise tours for McConaghy Tours/Lobstick Travel, travelling to places such as China, Ukraine, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Europe, Norway, the Amazon and Galapagos Islands, among others. Arch and Bev spent 59 years living in Balcarres, where he was an active member of the community as an avid curler and a lifetime member of both the Legion and the Balcarres Golden Age Centre.
Arch loved to entertain and would often be seen playing the fiddle or his accordion at long-term care centers in the area, also spending 37 years with the Balcarres Fireside Singers. In later years, he enjoyed making wine and beer and tending to his precious fish.
Arch was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Edna Esplin; older brothers Jim and John Esplin; and brother-in-law Lloyd Fjermestad. He is survived by his wife Bev of 60 years; his daughter Leanne (Randy) Procyshen and their daughters Kelcie (Reece) and Jenna (Tyler); his son Kent (Karla) Esplin and their daughters Cherrise (Nicholas) and Carissa (Ryley); brother-in-law Robert (Barbara) Blake; sisters-in-law Judith Fjermestad and Doris Esplin; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Arch will be remembered for his quick wit, love of music and the lasting impact he had on family, friends and the community of Balcarres.
The interment will take place in the Balcarres Cemetery in Balcarres, SK on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Balcarres Lions Hall, Balcarres, SK at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Don Jewitt.
