Valerie Lynn Turton Dumonceaux passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the age of 77 years. She is survived by her children: Crystal, Jackie (Greg), Theresa (Darren) and Michelle (Andy); her grandchildren: Marina (Jayce), Brittny, Dominic, Lindsay (Logan), Jordan, Emma, Ethan (Hutton), Montana (Noah), Hunter, Ryker, Channing, Victoria and Coy and her great-grandchildren: Maci, Radley and Elliot. She is also survived by her brothers Dempster (Carol) and Leonard; her sisters-in-law Marlene Dumonceaux and Lillian Pare and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Val was predeceased by her husband Paul; her parents William and Hazel Turton; her stepmother Nettie Turton; brothers-in-law Harvey and Emilien Dumonceaux and many family members and dear friends over the years.
Mom was born in St. Boniface, MB. She met Dad when she was visiting her Aunt Fern and Uncle Stanley and they married Oct. 25, 1969. They settled together on a farm outside of Kipling, SK and raised four girls, participating in the raising and showing of purebred Horned Hereford cattle and farming until just before Dad passed away in 2002.
Mom contributed in many different clubs and activities over the years. She was a member of the Rebekahs (IOOF), the Saskatchewan Women’s Institute and a 4-H Club Leader. Once her kids were old enough to look out for themselves and each other, she started working as a cook at different restaurants throughout the years, finally settling at the Can-Am Truck Stop in Whitewood. She made Whitewood her home for many years after Dad had passed, then decided to move back to Kipling. At the behest of her eldest, Crystal, she moved to Fort Qu’Appelle. There, she was able to spend time with some of her grandkids, make new friends and enjoy life in the valley.
Mom loved being a Grandma so much! Every minute she was able to spend with her grandkids and great-grandkids was precious to her. Mom flew out to Ontario to visit Michelle and her family in 2019 and saw Niagara Falls and visited Sarnia. She was also a big Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and attended a few games at both the old and new stadiums. Mom got to see Sir Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks and
Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash in concert. She was also able to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with Theresa, Jackie and Crystal for her birthday.
The family would like to thank the staff of All Nations Healing Hospital, Fort Qu’Appelle; Valley Ambulance Service, Fort Qu’Appelle and the staff of the Regina General Hospital (ER and ICU), for their tremendous care of Mom.
A private family graveside service will be held. A public come and go tea will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kipling Friendship Center, 500 1st Street, Kipling.
