Quinton Robert Tank was the eldest son of Otto and Anne (nee Keller) Tank. He was born on July 14, 1938, in Melville, SK, and grew up on their family farm not far from here. As a young man, he moved to British Columbia to work in a sawmill but returned home to help on the farm after his father suffered a heart attack.
After returning home, Quinton met his wife, Jean. The two married on Aug. 29, 1964, and they continued to help Quinton’s family on their farm for the next few years. They welcomed the arrival of their first son and watched their family start growing quickly. Quinton and Jean later purchased some land and began their own dairy farm that they operated for many years. The sale of the dairy farm saw them move into Melville and commence a further business adventure with the purchase of a dry cleaning operation, which was eventually followed by a laundromat as well as managing a rental property with the purchase of an apartment building.
Quinton was involved with many community organizations, clubs and teams. For many years, he played softball with the Wallacetown Royals. While living in Melville, he and Jean served on the Melville Lions Club, CN Rail Station Heritage Association and Regional Park Board. Quinton spent many of his days fixing anything that needed an adjustment and his summers fishing at the lake with his wife.
He was a devoted sports fan. There was rarely a time that there wasn’t a baseball game, curling match, or hockey game playing on their television.
Quinton was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Anne, his son, Ryan, and other extended family members.
He will be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Jean; by his six sons, David (Lorine) and their children, Drew and Janelle; Kevin (Kelly) and children Sean, Tyler, Samantha and Dylan; Barry (Deanna) and children Chance, Shae-Lynn, Zayden and Toni; Richard and children Kaleigh, and Travis; Aaron (Ruth) and children Jaden, Ariana and Brinley; youngest son Benjamin; his brothers, Elroy (Gail) and Garry (Joan), as well as many extended family members and close friends.
Quinton’s funeral service was held on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Deacon Kevin Prouten officiating. Interment took place in Duff Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
