Date of Birth: December 27, 1949

Date of Death: February 27, 2024

It is with great sadness, yet with hope in the resurrection, that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, papa and great-papa Brian on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Eleanor Materi; brother Douglas; and father and mother-in-law, Reuben and Anne Yackel.
Left to remember him are his wife of 48 years, Maureen; children: Danielle (David) Bell, Michelle Materi, Chris (Kimberly) Materi and Lindsay
(Jordan) Anderson; siblings, Dennis (Marge) Materi, Nancy (Matthew) Macknak and Evelyn Materi; his grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Regina, Sask. on Dec. 27, 1949, Brian was the eldest of four children growing up on the family farm in Lipton, Sask. Brian was always interested in cars and in particular the fast ones! He was a journeyman mechanic by trade, while operating a successful farm for over 35 years. As an active community member, over the years Brian was a Lions Club member and president, actively involved in the church as a member and elder, and was a councillor within the RM council for many, many years. If someone needed a hand with anything, they knew they could count on Brian to help – whether it be building the new skating rink, upgrading the curling rink or building the Lutheran church, Brian was always there.
Brian spent many hours at the curling rink over the years – all of it spent with good friends, just not all of it on the ice! He was always there for his kids hockey, volleyball, baseball and skating events through the years. He passed his love of camping, fishing and hunting on to every part of his family. Even though he pretended that the noise got to be too much when everyone came home, having his whole family around was one of his greatest pleasures.
Brian was a great dad, but his true selflessness came out with his grandchildren. His pride and joy was spending time with all of them: Brandon (Allison), Gabriel, Sean, Kaelyn, Liam, Rylee, Blake, Paisley, Hartley and Kinley. Most recently, he became a proud great-papa to his first great- granddaughter, Kalea. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time riding the quad, shooting targets or just goofing around with his grandkids.
A memorial service will be held in the Lipton Town Hall on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Josh Kurtenbach officiating. A private family interment in Lipton Memorial Gardens will be held prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Brian may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Box 1519, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK S0G 1S0 or the All Nations’ Healing Hospital Charity Fund, Box 300, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK S0G 1S0.
