August Flegel, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully in the presence of several family members on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023.
Predeceased by his parents, August Daniel and Johanna (née Klein); brothers George, Daniel, John, and Michael and Joseph (both in infancy); and sister Otillia; parents-in-law, Jean Sorin and Marie (née Baudry); as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
August leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Cécile (née Sorin); eight children, Jean Paul (Sandra), Michael, Dominic (Deb), Gerard (Donna), Marie Kondzielewski (Martin), August Daniel, Mark (Wendy) and Loretta Beacham (Adam); 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; his sister Anne (SMS); in-laws Frances Flegel, Joseph and Norma Sorin, and Paul Sorin (M.Afr.); and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
August was born and raised in the Mariahilf district, near Killaly, SK. He married Cécile on June 29, 1963. Together they raised their family on the farm until moving to Regina in 1990.
August valued hard work and held many different jobs over the years; farming, wood cabinetry and frame making, custodial work and driver for a funeral home. He volunteered in his home communities for many years, most notably in his work with Volksliederchor Harmonie and Christ the King choirs, with whom he shared his beautiful tenor voice. He enjoyed serving others and modeled this throughout his lifetime.
August’s faith was of utmost importance. He demonstrated this in his family life through daily prayer, building family relationships, sharing his joyful spirit, and most markedly, his sense of generosity. His dedication to Cécile through 60 years of marriage never waned and was more apparent than ever in his concern, care and tenderness for her as her caregiver during the past several years. He loved his family dearly and spent time with them whenever possible.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Speers Funeral Chapel in Regina. Funeral mass took place at Christ the King, Regina, SK on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at a later date. The service will be livestreamed.
