Cornelius (Corkie) Loewen passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at the Whitewood Community Health Centre. He was 90 years of age.
Corkie was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Loewen; his three brothers, John, Henry and Peter; his first wife, Freda; and one grandson, Jeremy Loewen. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jean; his son, Barry (Gayle) and daughter, Jane; two grandchildren, Alison (Josh) and Veronica; and two great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Evelyn. He is also survived by Jean’s children, Trudy (Kim), Donna (Mark), Dean (Faye), Wayne (Shari), Sandra (Bruce) and Shiela (Shane); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Corkie was born on June 4, 1933, to John and Anna; he was one of four boys. They lived in the Municipality of Stanley in southern Manitoba. Corkie spent 21 years as an airframe mechanic with the Canadian Forces. After retirement, he worked at an RV dealership, and then he had a secondhand store and had a passion for collecting. Corkie retired again and moved to Penticton, where he met Jean. They were very active dancing and playing cribbage. They moved numerous times in Penticton and finally moved back to Saskatchewan. They travelled to Nashville and the Maritimes by bus. They were provincial cribbage champs and travelled to compete in the Senior Canadian Games in the Maritimes.
Donations can be made in Corkie’s memory to the Whitewood Canadian Legion #87, Box 765, Whitewood, SK S0G 5C0. By personal request, there will be no funeral service.
