Lorraine Dunnigan passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina with family by her side on Monday,
December 5, 2022, at the age of 79 years.
Lorraine was born and raised in Punnichy, SK, on the family farm with her parents, Nick and Mary Bentz, brothers Gary, Wayne and Wilf, and two sisters, Gail and Eleanor. Lorraine met and fell in love with Wayne Dunnigan in the fall of 1962, and they married August 3, 1963. Darrell came along in 1964, Douglas in 1965 and Debra in 1967.
Lorraine was a very busy mom with kids’ sports and activities, along with gardening, canning, volunteering at the church and endless community service. She loved helping out in any way in the community. She was very involved with the United Church in Whitewood, even leading church services when needed.
Lorraine loved family get-togethers and playing cards. She also loved knitting, crocheting, quilting and baking. If this sounds like she was a super mom, she was!
Lorraine and Wayne settled in Whitewood with the kids after a few moves with stops in Punnichy, Regina, Wawota, Regina again, and Tisdale. Lorraine was Wayne’s right and left hand at the veterinary practices. When Lorraine and Wayne weren’t working, they loved to take the kids fishing to Jan Lake and later in life enjoyed many trips to Tofino, BC, for deep-sea salmon fishing. In their early retirement, they became extensive travellers, visiting Africa three times, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore three times, Disney World, Malaysia, Chili, Peru, Argentina, Guatemala, Puerta Rico, three Hawaiian cruises, two Caribbean cruises, an Alaskan cruise, a Panama Canal cruise and even tried snorkelling off the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Mary Bentz; sister Gail Bentz; son-in-law Roger Funk; and sisters-in-law Myrna and Martha Bentz.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Wayne Dunnigan; children Darrell (Cheryl), Douglas (Janelle) and Debra; grandchildren Jana (Taylor), Matt (Kelsey), Hanna (Dan) and Kaleb; great-grandchildren Sophia and Scarlett; sister Eleanor (Hugh); brothers Gary (Donna), Wilf and Wayne; step-grandchildren Leah (Don), Rebecca (Chris) and Jessica; step-great-grandchild Emily; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be dearly missed!
Lorraine’s funeral service was held Friday, December 9, 2022, at Whitewood United Church, Whitewood, SK, with placement in the Whitewood Cemetery columbarium taking place in a private ceremony.
