Winnifred (Winnie) Elsie Goebel was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Neudorf, Sask. to Jacob and Elizabeth (Rithaler) Goebel and passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018 in Melville at the age of 92 years.
Winnie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Benjamin Goebel; her parents, J.M. and Elizabeth (Rithaler) Goebel; her daughter, Diane Waldbauer; son-in-law, James Waldbauer; daughter-in-law, Debra Lynn Goebel; several brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Winnie leaves to mourn her passing: her sister, Gertrude; sons, Raymond and Daniel (Karen); grandchildren, Cheryl (Jeremy), Jackie (Donnelly), Jody (Wayne), Andrew (Tara), Melissa (Marc), Kelly and Afton (Kurt); great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Emerson, Kullen, Belle, Addison, Hailey, Ella, James, Kitiara, Jessica, Aithne, Serena, Cadence, Josh, Izzy, Von, Corbin and Lydian; and many nieces and nephews.
Winnie’s funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 3, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neudorf with the Rev. John Nieminen officiating. Cheryl Waldbauer delivered the eulogy and Afton Chobot and Melissa Picard sang, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” The organist, Sherry Hoehn, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “My Hope is Built on Nothing Else,” “When Peace, Like a River,” “Lord, Thee I Love with All My Heart” and “Abide With Me.”
Interment took place in the Neudorf Cemetery with Kelly Goebel, Jeremy Miller, Donnelly McEwen, Wayne Paproski, Andrew Waldbauer, Kurt Chobot and Marc Picard acting as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Pastor Nieminen, Dr. Eshawesh, the staff at St. Paul Lutheran Home and St. Peter’s Hospital, the Caleb Village staff and residents, Matthews Funeral Home, as well as family and friends for their support during this difficult time.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
