Date of Death: June 26, 2017

Anne was born on the family farm near Wishart, SK on May 25, 1928 and passed away June 26, 2017 at the age of 89.
She was born to George and Julia Smutt, who had immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in 1927. Anne married Mike Halarewich May 29, 1949 and they farmed in the Melville/Yorkton area in the Cana district. Anne worked hard on the farm milking cows, butchering chickens, gardening and helping with other farm chores. She loved having visitors, always had the coffee pot on and made sure no one ever left hungry.
On Sept. 7, 1970, Anne gave birth to her only son, Darrell, in Yorkton Union Hospital. He was her pride and joy. She went to all his sporting events and especially loved watching him play ball.
Anne worked at the King George Hotel as a cook for many years; she was known for her fabulous perogies, as her nickname was Perogie Annie. She was also known in town for her cinnamon buns and cabbage rolls; she received and filled orders for friends and family.
Darrell married Sheryl Sies Sept. 7, 1996. During that time, Mike became sick, and in March 1997, he passed away. Anne continued to live on the farm, and the Classic Inn then hired her as a cook; she worked for them for several years.
On April 8, 2001, she was blessed with her first grandchild, Taylor, and then on June 13, 2005 she was blessed with her grandson, Logan. She treasured her grandkids very much. Every chance she could get, she watched them play ball and hockey. Anne also had a love for her brother Nick and sister-in-law Marlene; she couldn’t wait for their visits. Anne was a caring and selfless person. She loved going for coffee and visiting with family and friends, watching Regina Pats and Melville Millionaires on television and listening to Saturday night music on GX94.
Anne was predeceased by her parents, George and Julia; her brothers George and Michael and her sister Olga. She is survived by her son Darrell (Sheryl) and her grandchildren, Taylor and Logan; her brother Nick (Marlene) Smutt; her sisters-in-law, Rose Pepper (Reg), Angeline Yaholnitsky (Frank), Waltrine Popine (Ron), Dorothy Taylor, Isabel Burant (August), Loretta Halarewich and Ann Halarewich; her brother-in-law, Raymond Halarewich, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be missed by all, and her memory will live with us all forever.
