On October 21, 2015 just before 6:00 pm Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP, EMS and Fire Department were dispatched to Highway 56 west of Fort Qu’Appelle to a call of an injured construction worker. A 49 year old male was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel. The deceased had been operating machinery (compactor) in regards to the re-paving of Highway 56. The machinery left the roadway causing fatal injuries.
Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP are continuing their investigation, along with Occupational Health and Safety investigators of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety. An autopsy has been requested by the attending Coroner.
The highway was closed for several hours while the investigation continued.
