SMITH – It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory Smith announces his passing on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 following a year and a half long battle with cancer.
Greg was born July 14, 1947 in Melville to Arnold and Lena Smith. He lived most of his life in
Melville. He attended elementary and middle school and, when he felt like it, high school, which he graduated from in 1965. Greg joined the family business, Smith’s Auto Supply, afterwards.
Following an attempt at early retirement, he joined the local Co-op Home Centre where he was sought out for his knowledge on fixing everything. Greg truly enjoyed his time working there.
Greg loved life. He loved his family, friends, a good joke and a good argument. He also loved the lake (especially having a few sips with friends and family). He had many interests including music, cars and politics. He also enjoyed adding to his many collections from radios and cars to houses.
Greg was predeceased by his parents; and dear sister, Connie.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; children, Sarah, Jessica (Ward deBussac) and Dylan.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses at Melville Home Care and Palliative Care for being so terrific during the final weeks.
A private family service was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 with the Rev. Kim Sherwin officiating. This was followed by a memorial gathering for family and friends.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Greg’s name to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic may do so at www.matthewsfuneralhome.ca.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
