EDWARDS – Leonard. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard (Hap) Edwards on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at the age of 90 in Calgary.
Hap is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary; daughters, Penny Edwards, Lenora Lys (Terry), Karen Morrison (Geoff); and son, Terry (Bev) Edwards; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; special family friend, Connie Fessler; brother, Ken (Lee) Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews and family. Hap is predeceased by his parents and nine siblings.
Hap was born in Lestock, Sask. to Tom and Mary Edwards on Feb. 21, 1925, one of eight boys and three girls. He began his schooling in Lestock and furthered his education at Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Sask. There he played hockey with the Notre Dame Hounds and was drafted by the New York Rovers, farm team for the New York Rangers.
A prairie boy at heart, he left New York to return to marry his high school sweetheart, Mary. They settled in Melville, Sask. with Hap playing hockey and baseball for the Melville Millionaires for 15 years, started his career with Eaton’s and began a family. He was transferred to
Swift Current in 1963 to be the manager of the Eaton’s department store, where he began an active life being involved in the community, raising his four children and playing hockey with the Swift Current Blues.
He retired in 1987, continuing to enjoy golf, dancing, socializing and spending 22 years being snowbirds in Mesa, Ariz. with his wife, Mary. Hap valued his family and friends above all else and was always very supportive of his children. He will be greatly missed.
