Hanowski, MatildaHANOWSKI – Matilda Hanowski of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, Sask., wife of the late Adam Hanowski, entered her eternal rest peacefully, on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Home with her family at her side. She was 86 years of age.
Matilda was born in the Grayson area on Dec. 6, 1928 to Peter and Theresa (Fuchs) Kopetzki. Matilda was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Grayson.
Matilda grew up in the Grayson area and received her education at Hauer School. Matilda helped out on the farm until she moved into Melville where she worked for two and a half years.
On July 4, 1960, Matilda was united in marriage to Adam Jacob Hanowski at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Grayson. Their marriage was blessed with five children, two sons and three daughters.
Matilda enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking — we especially enjoyed her apple strudel. She and Adam always planted a large garden on the farm where they always had enough vegetables for fresh eating and into the winter. They also kept busy with their cattle where they
milked cows, and kept chickens and pigs. Matilda and Adam retired to Melville in 1990, but they still continued to plant a large garden on the farm.
Matilda had a great love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anytime we came over to visit, she always had enough goodies in her cupboards for the kids both young and old. When we went to the farm in the summer, she enjoyed showing us her garden and liked to share her vegetables with her children and grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Theresa Kopetzki; husband, Adam; infant sister, Mary; daughter, Glenda Simpson; brothers, Ferdinand Kopetzki and Ewald Kopetzki.
Matilda leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Harvey and Alvin Hanowski; daughters, Theresa Hanowski (Gary Ward) and Gladys (Royce) Weslowski; grandchildren: Amanda Ward (Brett Herbert) and great-grandchildren, Deeghan and Dantaye: Amber Ward (Mark Stehr) and great-grandchildren, Evan and Gavin: Kristy and Chelsea Weslowski, Kurtis and Kayla Simpson; brothers, Wilfred Kopetzki, Peter (Marjorie) Kopetzki and Siegfried Kopetzki; sisters, Irene (Ferdinand) Bernhardt and Theresa (Pat) Hahn.
