On May 3, 2015 at approximately 4:20 p.m., Melfort RCMP responded to a four vehicle fatal collision on Hwy #6 approximately five km south of Spalding, Sk. A white Cavalier driven by a 17-year old male, a 14-year old male passenger and a 15-year old male passenger, all of Carrot River, SK., were stopped in the northbound lane at a construction zone behind a grey Dodge pick-up truck with a 48-year old male driver. A semi-tractor trailer driven by a 38-year old male was heading northbound on Hwy #6, when it collided with the Cavalier from behind. The Cavalier hit the Dodge truck, which then struck a 21-year old male highway flagperson. The Dodge then crossed the highway and collided with a construction pilot vehicle driven by a 19-year old male. Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch.

The three males in the Cavalier were pronounced dead at the scene. The male flagperson was flown by STARS to hospital in Saskatoon with what is described as critical injuries. The driver of the Dodge and the pilot vehicle along with the driver of the semi-tractor trailer were transported by EMS to Melfort hospital with minor injuries and all have since been released. There is no update on the condition of the flagperson at this time.

Next of kin notifications have been completed. The names of the deceased will not be released at this time at the request of the families.

Saskatoon RCMP Traffic Reconstructionists attended the scene and is continuing the investigation.

No charges have been laid at this time.
