Round and Crooked Lake levels rising from snowfall & warm weather.
The Water Security Agency is advising the public about the rise in lake levels on Crooked and Round Lakes.
The recent snowfall at the end of March combined with well above normal seasonal temperatures is creating a faster melt than expected from areas upstream of Crooked Lake. The rapid snow melt is arriving at Crooked Lake at the same time as flows from the basin above Katepwa Lake.
Crooked Lake is now at 452.46 metres above sea level (m) and is expected to peak around April 6 at roughly 453.1 m. Round Lake is at 443.01 m and is expected to peak around April 10 at roughly 443.9 m.
These water levels are not expected to cause significant issues but high winds could result in shifting sheets of ice as the ice covers breakup creating a risk to shorelines and property. Residents are asked to be aware of this potential.
The Water Security Agency is asking the public to exercise caution when working on or near these lakes as ice shifting during spring runoff can create hazardous conditions.
