Date of Birth: November 29, 1929

Date of Death: January 30, 2015

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Loreen Lillian Dorothy Bachtold on Friday, January 30, 2015 at the age of 85 years.  We find comfort in knowing that she is now with her beloved husband of nearly 45 years, Charlie.  Loreen loved to reminisce with her friends and family over a cup of tea, and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Bachtold, LoreenLoreen Bachtold was born to Angus and Alice McCormick on November 29, 1929 at the family farm near Whitewood.  She entered this world two months premature, weighing only two pounds and was never expected to live.  Fed through an eyedropper and placed in a man’s shoe box for a crib, this “wee girlie” was a fighter and survived.  Life continued to have its challenges as her mother contracted tuberculosis and was moved to the Fort Qu’Appelle Sanatorium when Loreen was only two.  Alice died at the sanatorium when Loreen was seven and a half, without Loreen ever living with her mom.  Loreen attended the convent school at St. Andrew’s until age fourteen.  She then moved home and became the cook and housekeeper for her father and three older brothers.  In 1949 Loreen married Charles Bachtold, and they raised their five children on the family farm at Pipestone Lake.

In 1986 Charlie and Loreen retired to Whitewood.  For the last two years of her life, Loreen enjoyed living at the Green Street Apartments.

Loreen was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, who passed away in 1994; her parents, Angus and Alice; brothers Bernie, Dave and Doug McCormick; sisters-in-law Violette Poncelet and Loraine McCormick; brothers-in-law Louis Poncelet and Jean Bachtold; and son-in-law Ken Uhrich.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Uhrich, Allan (Lynn) Bachtold, Chris (Karen) Bachtold, Marlene (Doug) Freeman and Brent (Kerri) Bachtold.  Loreen also leaves to cherish her memory her 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, Andrea (Russell), Taylor and Elliott; Dana (Christian), Zachary and Seth; Brandy (Nelson), Ethan and Dominic; Jodie (Brad), Gracie and Christian; Kendall; Kali (Brodi); Lyndsie; Dylan; Kelsey (Andrew); Marni (Brennan); Chandler; Shelby; Jade; Charlie; Owen and numerous nieces and nephews.  Loreen’s children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, and they are thankful to her for teaching them the importance of family.

We would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks to the staff of the South East Integrated Care Centre in Moosomin for their compassionate care of our Mom and support for our family.  Memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Whitewood and St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Wapella.

Mass of Christian Burial for Loreen was celebrated Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Whitewood with the Rev. Rene Mangahas celebrating. The scriptures were read by Kendal Bachtold, Kali Bachtold and Charlie Freeman. The intercessions were lead by Kali Bachtold and the gift bearers were Allen and Chris Bachtold. The honorary bearers were all those who knew and loved Loreen and the urn bearers were Loreen’s grandchildren. Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Whitewood.
